Stronger Wi-Fi, and Caira as a webcam

Two updates ship to Caira the week of 12 October. The first is stronger Wi-Fi, and the second lets you use Caira as a webcam. I gave a quick preview on Instagram last week, and this is the fuller version.

The preview, from our Instagram. Watch it on Instagram.

Stronger Wi-Fi

Caira sends every photo and video to your iPhone over Wi-Fi. That's how your shots end up in the camera roll without a memory card, so when the connection struggles, you feel it. This update gives you significantly better Wi-Fi performance in crowded places, where lots of networks compete with each other, and a longer range when you take your iPhone off the camera.

Owners have been asking us for this for a couple of months now, and I'm really glad it's finally shipping.

Caira as a webcam

The second update turns Caira into a webcam. Plug it into your laptop with a USB-C cable, open Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, and choose Caira from the camera menu. Your calls then come through the same Micro Four Thirds sensor and lens you take photos with, and you'll look a lot better on your next call than you do on a laptop webcam.

We've written a step-by-step guide, with tips on lenses and lighting: How to use Caira as a webcam.
